For many years All Saints’ Church has been a rich and accessible source of information for those seeking to find family and local history.

With the importance of these precious historical documents being more widely recognised, local record offices increasingly encourage churches to lodge their records with the archive service. While this is a great move it has meant that people coming to churches to research their history can no longer expect to find records on site.

Here in All Saints’ Church we are fortunate enough to have digitised, transcript or facsimile copies of the following archive material which is accessible to all:

  • Facsimile copy of the baptism Register 1863 to the present day
  • Transcript Record of all marriages from 1647 to the present day
  • A record of all those interred in All Saints’ churchyard, the council cemetery and the methodist burial ground produces by Harrogate Family History Society
  • The Poppies Blow – a record and brief history of all those killed in WW1
  • A complete record of the interior and contents of the church produced by NADFAS
  • Archaeologist’s watching brief report compiled during the reordering work on the church in 2009
  • Back copies of the Parish News from 1936 to the present day for reference

In the near future we hope to have digital access to the oldest of the school log books.

The history of Kirkby Overblow village is told in two books. “Orblauers” was published in 1985, this book details historical facts from 1903. This follows on from the book by Harry Speight published in 1903 containing the origins and history of the village up to 1903.

In addition to Oreblauers and The Poppies Blow, the village history group has published 4 further booklets on subjects of local historical interest:

  • Spotlight on Orblauers
  • Rougemont Castle
  • Monastic Farming in the Kirkby Overblow District
  • The Search for Tidover.
